One of my favorite pastimes is to watch the color trends as they emerge, beginning in fashion, and leading to architecture, interior design, and home décor. Pantone has announced the color of the year for 2017…and…drum roll please…it is “Greenery!”
I personally found that to be ultra-exciting since it is and has always been Otis Architecture’s company color and brand from inception…and that was 26 years ago! I have to thank my friend and co-architecture student back in the day for the wise choice of color and graphics that still feel fresh and relevant. This bright lime-ish green hue is a vivid and revitalizing color that evokes images of nature and springtime. As Pantone states, “Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings...a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.”
In the process of determining color trends, Pantone looks at the global vibe that is trending, and what consumers are feeling. In the case of Greenery, consumers want to slow down, notice nature, meditate, and take a deep revitalizing breath.
"Greenery is nature’s neutral.” -Pantone
Pantone continues to define the hue as “a constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront - it is an omnipresent hue around the world. A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.”
You will start to see Greenery showing up in stores, homes, fashion…you name it. There is a boldness and confidence in that color, as well as vivacity and stimulating energy. It grounds us to nature and elevates our spirit simultaneously. I cannot think of a better vibe than that!
Embrace the Greenery and allow it to revitalize you…Enjoy!
